Kansas City, MO, Sunday Afternoon

Last weekend had been kind of rough, yeah. And so had this past week, because it was like there'd been something in the air, making every person flying SkyKans a total pain in the ass. But, Kate had the day off today. And yes, she was totally intending to do useful crap at some point. Like... groceries. Or cleaning. Or... Something. She hadn't decided yet.

Because slouching on the couch with her laptop and dicking around on the internet and watching a million YouTube videos was the best use of her time right now. You couldn't go wrong with cats doing funny things, or people falling down a lot. Or, apparently, stop-motion animation with foul-mouthed Barbies.

Also:

"... Oh my fucking God, these dolls totally live in Overland Park. Oh my God."

Well, she'd just become a fan.

Well, did it ease her mind when Bod was doing all the productive things? He'd cleaned earlier and was actually just now arriving back to the apartment with items from the grocery store.

If she didn't want to be productive, he could pick up the slack for her. He was just that nice. Or he didn't want to be without toilet paper and food for the week.

But, he was back now and they wouldn't be without necessities. "I'm back," he called out idly.

Kate considered confusing him with a quote, because she kind of enjoyed doing that kind of thing.

But then she just snickered (at her laptop, naturally) and went with a "Hiiii."

"Hullo," he said, dragging the bags into the kitchen and giving her a smile as he passed. "You look like you're enjoying your day off."

"Hullo," Kate replied lazily, but glancing at him to give him a smile anyway. "Well spotted. I totally am."

"Well, if you happen to need me, I'm going to put the groceries away and then perhaps I might clean our bathroom," he told her, disappearing into the kitchen.

Such a house boyfriend. Or whatever.

"You are doing this day off thing all wrong!" Kate called after him.

Although she did appreciate someone else taking care of stuff. And only felt a little bit guilty of taking advantage of his niceness.

"This is what I do on my days off," Bod called back, putting various foodstuffs away in the kitchen. "I enjoy doing things like this!"

"You are weird!"

Like that was news.

"Odd Bod! Odd Bod who wastes days off on groceries!"

"Kate, we had nothing in the cabinets," Bod said, laughing. "We would have to start eating each other if it lasted much longer."

He was trying to make a joke, not an innuendo.

Kate snickered again.

"Oh, that doesn't sound so bad..."

Bod paused once he realized what he'd said. "That's not what I meant though I don't disagree with you."

"Ooh, look, at least you got it!" Kate exclaimed, clapping. Shut up, it deserved applause. "Yeah, yeah, you meant cannibalism. But cannibalism is gross and I like to think about nicer things."

"I know you do," he said, sliding the last of the groceries away before washing his hands and coming out into the living room. "Because that's how you are."

And he did like that. "I'm going to clean the bathroom now, dearest. Don't miss me too much."

"You are so boring," Kate whined, not meaning it one bit. She supposed he had to be like he was to live with a day-off slob like her. "I miss you already."

"I love you too," Bod said, blowing her a kiss before he headed towards their bedroom so he could start in on the bathroom. It wasn't a large bathroom so he figured he could knock it out fairly quickly.

And Kate...

Well. Kate settled down to keep watching YouTube videos. For at least a moment. Because that shit was funny, okay, and she was quite committed to being unhelpful.

And Bod didn't begrudge her being lazy. He found himself in the bathroom, straightening their various hygiene products and the like before starting to clean the glass and tiles.

Kate got a good few minutes of lazying done, there.

Then she decided she was bored, and wandered over to peer into the bathroom.

"Are you just going to watch me?" he asked, glancing at her over his shoulder. "Or are you going to assist?"

"I could... make puns with the word 'assist'?"

That was about as helpful as she was intending to be, yeah.

"That's not very helpful," Bod said, tsking her lightly and returning to the tile cleaning. "Very unhelpful."

"It's not that unhelpful," Kate argued. "I could always say it was to amuse and entertain you and thereby for making your work feel a little less hard."

"But, I don't find this work hard," said Bod, shrugging. "I enjoy being helpful and productive. I like it."

Kate wrinkled her nose and stuck her tongue out at him.

Like a mature person.

"That's not very nice," Bod said, shaking his head and laughing. "I'm only being honest."
