Kansas City, MO, Tuesday Morning

Some days Kate just felt like an adult. This seemed to be one of them. Maybe it was the fact that she was actually having some vaguely healthy cereal for breakfast, or that she was reading the morning paper, or something seemingly inconsequential like that. It couldn't be work, because she had the day off, blissfully. There'd been screaming children and grouchy old men all over her flights yesterday.

Maybe she was just happy, and therefore willing to feel like she could be a responsible and productive member of society.

"Oh, man, there's a sale at this one furniture store," she said, mostly to herself, spotting the ad in the paper, "we should totally go."

That was an adult thing to say, wasn't it?

"So I could be a young, hot, sweaty flight attendant?" Kate asked. "Pass. I need things with an engine."

It was probably wise of Bod not to mention a moped. Very, very wise.

"We'll look into getting a car soon," he promised, finishing his water and tossing the bottle into the recycling bin. "And then, I'll walk to work and you can use the car."

Mopeds were for boys. But she did occasionally miss her Vespa!

"Aww, I can totally take you to work, sometimes," Kate promised. "Whenever schedules align."

"I don't mind walking, though," Bod assured her. "During the winter, I might mind a little but for the most part, I can make it the few miles down the road."

"Yeah but I like driving you in the hopes of goodbyes kisses and stuff," Kate pointed out, as she got up to take her now empty bowl away. "Clearly you're missing the important things here."

"You're going to get a goodbye kiss no matter how I go to work," Bod laughed. "The place will just be a little different. Either her in the apartment or in the car."

"Yeah but car ones are special." A beat. "Don't ask why, I just made that up."

"And that is what makes you special," he said, laughing again. "You have such an interesting philosophy."

"Why thank you," she preened, before laughing and putting the bowl in the sink. "I think a lot of is just my complete lack of interest in censoring myself."

"There is that too," Bod said, sidling up behind her and slipping an arm around her waist. "We could go make to bed too, you know. I bet the sale would still be there in a bit."

Kate laughed some more. "I can't even tell if you're being frisky or just lazy. Of course I'm also not sure if the distinction even matters."

"Perhaps it's both?" Bod suggested, pressing a kiss against her neck and then her ear. "But, I think you're more right that the distinction doesn't matter."

"It's a stupid distinction, anyway," Kate decided, leaning back against him just a bit, and putting her hand on his arm. "It should usually be the best of both worlds."

"And there is your astounding philosophy at work again," Bod joked, closing his eyes and sighing. "You're so intelligent, Kate."

"Duh, that's why you're so enamored with me," Kate murmured, sounding amused. She turned her head to kiss his cheek again. "Because I'm astoundingly philosophical and sharp as a tack. And dirty-minded."

"And beautiful," he added. "Don't forget beautiful."

"Okay, beautiful." Snicker. She nodded a few times. "Anything else I'm forgetting, or is that all?"

"Oh, I'm sure there's many more things but it'd take all day to tell you," Bod said, shrugging. "So, we'll limit it to those for now."

"So what are you intending to do with all that time you're saving by not telling me all the things that make you love me?" Kate wondered, lightly his arm with her fingers. "Good things, I hope."

"Oh, I don't know," he murmured, shrugging slightly. "The first step was to get you back in bed. After that, I was going to play it by ear."

"I like the sound of that, but you stll haven't gotten me back into bed," Kate pointed out with a chuckle. "This plan is moving slowly."

"Well, I have just broached the idea," Bod said. "So, it's fairly new and I haven't really been assertive about it. You should know I'm a fairly slow person."

"Lazy person," Kate teased. She kissed his cheek again. Full of affection, she was. "Lazy but frisky."

"Isn't that your default state?" he asked, amused. "You're always frisky."

"Am I?"

Yes, she often was. The fact that she was vocal about it didn't help with the impression.

"You're making me sound like a nymphomaniac."
